Vitamin B12 - Hydroxocobalamin, Cyanocobalamin or Methylcobalamin
Vitamin B12 is a vitamin that is important for the energy balance of the nervous system, memory, cell division and blood formation. Vitamin B12 is abundant in many foods from different food groups. Offal such as veal and beef liver, are particularly high in vitamin B12. High-content foods include herring, mackerel, beef, various cheeses, salmon and tuna.
The daily requirement depends on age and gender.
Infant (up to 12 months) 0.5-1.4 ug/day
Children (1-15 years) 1.5-4.0 ug/day
Women: 4.0 ug/day
Pregnant women: 4,5 ug/day
Breastfeeding women: 5.5 ug/day
Men: 4.0 ug /day
The doctor can detect a vitamin B12 deficiency. Signs of this may include the following symptoms: tingling, feeling cold in the hands and feet, weakness and rapid fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. It can also cause muscle twitching, so-called tics, which are particularly noticeable in the eyes. Another indication of a vitamin B12 deficiency can be cracks in the corners of the mouth (rhagades). However, these can also be a sign of zinc or iron deficiency. For persistent complaints, a visit to the doctor is recommended.
Methylcobalamin (MeB12)
Methylcobalamin is a coenzyme produced by bacteria. Hydroxo- and cyanocobalamin are converted in the body to methylcobalamin. It is absorbed by the body much better than other types of vitamin B12 and can be used very well by the body. A finished drug with methylcobalamin does not exist in Germany.
Cyanocobalamin (B12)
Cyanocobalamin is the most famous of the B12 vitamins. It does not exist naturally and is only made artificially. Because of this production, it has a very good stability and durability. In comparison to naturally occurring B12 vitamins, cyanocobalamin has a low depot effect and a 20-50% intake with injections. It is cheaper than, for example, hydroxocobalamin and therefore an alternative for budget conscious and healthy people. In addition, cyanocobalamin can be used externally for neurodermatitis and psoriasis. Mavena B12 is available as an ointment, cream and as an acute gel. Cyanocobalamin is available from us without a prescription. The ampoules of Rotexmedica, Hevert or Loges can be purchased conveniently and inexpensively from Arzneiprivat.
Hydroxocobalamin (B12b)
Hydroxocobalamin is a naturally occurring B12 vitamin produced by bacteria. In the body, it is converted into the more effective coenzymes methyl- and adenosylcobalamin, which helps the body absorb it better. It has an excellent depot effect and is therefore very sustainable (better than all other B12 vitamins). Hydroxocobalamin is the first drug of choice for high-dose initial therapy. It is used for detoxification in case of smoke poisoning and can also be taken as a supplement to quitting smoking (the nitrosative stress is reduced). It is of higher quality than the artificially produced cyanocobalamin. In the case of injections, up to 70% of the active substance can be absorbed by the body. You can buy hydroxocobalamin from us without a prescription. The ampoules of Hevert or Pascoe can be easily be obtained from arzneiprivat.
