My child is sick - Corona or just a cold?
Recently, the number of corona infections has been rising sharply again. Above all, it is currently the children who are increasingly affected.
But how do I tell the difference between a cold or corona?
A corona infection is almost indistinguishable from a normal cold in a child. Symptoms often include cough, sore throat, runny nose, low appetite, fatigue and fever.
Because a child's immune system is not fully mature, they are naturally much more susceptible to infection than adults.
In fact, it is quite normal for your child to become infected through droplet infection at school or kindergarten, up to 12 times a year. In total, there are more than 200 different viruses that can cause a cold.
Even at Corona times, parents should first keep calm when their child is sick and look for a testing opportunity in their area. The simplest solution here is a rapid antigen test. If this test is positive, a PCR test must be performed. The so-called "lollipop test" is completely painless and quickly provides certainty.
What can I do to relieve the symptoms in my child?
It is important here that they ventilate regularly and thus ensure high humidity. Plenty of sleep is also an important factor. Make sure that your child drinks a lot. The best is lukewarm water or herbal tea. What also helps is sage tea with honey. Here, however, caution is advised, because this should not be administered in large quantities, and may be used in babies only from the 7 month.
Of course, you can also resort to aids such as a cough syrup.
We recommend the Muscosolvan children's juice, this soothes the pain in the throat, loosens the mucus and thus facilitates expectoration.
A normal cold lasts about 7 - 10 days. If it lasts longer or your child suffers from high fever, then you should immediately consult a doctor.
Important for you as parents, always keep calm and do not forget that even colds contribute to healthy development, and every cold strengthens the immune system of your child.
Other factors are, plenty of exercise, fresh air, and a healthy balanced diet that promote health.
Until then, stay healthy.
