Medicines for babies & children: These medicines help with sniffles, flatulence and skin irritations ➤ A must for every medicine cabinet.

Our immune system is a complex network for defense against pathogens and other toxins. Unfortunately, this is not fully matured at birth, but develops over the course of our lives through contact with various pathogens. For this reason, children are also sick much more often - while adults experience an average of three to four infections a year, infants and young children experience up to twelve. This is quite natural and important in order to form antibodies, learn defense mechanisms and develop a powerful immune system. But that doesn't mean full exposure to all diseases. To help the little ones in their fight and alleviate their discomfort, there are some basic medicines that should not be missing in any medicine cabinet.

The most common baby and children's diseases

In kindergarten, on the playground, at school - everywhere pathogens are waiting for our little ones and test their defenses. Since the child's immune system is not yet fully developed, viruses and bacteria have it much easier here. As a result, babies and children get sick much more often than their parents. The most common complaints here include colic, colds/flu with coughs and colds, ear infections, conjunctivitis, gastrointestinal infections, diaper rashes, chicken pox and scarlet fever.

Medicines for babies and children

For many of these diseases and ailments, medications can help prevent a severe course, speed up the healing process, and alleviate symptoms. These are best taken by little ones as juice, drops or suppositories, as they still have difficulty swallowing larger tablets. To mask the medicine taste, many may be taken with juice, tea, or water, or they may already have pleasant flavors added naturally. In any case, however, always follow the prescribed dosage, as young children require much smaller doses than adults. Every well-stocked medicine cabinet should therefore contain the following medications for the youngest children:

Painkillers with antipyretic effect:

We recommend acetaminophen for this purpose for mild to moderately severe pain and ibuprofen due to its anti-inflammatory effects for toothache, bruises and other blunt injuries such as:

Remedies for gastrointestinal complaints:

If something stronger than a fennel and chamomile tea is needed, we recommend, for example, IBEROGAST for stomach pains, LEFAX, SAB simplex as well as caraway suppositories for flatulence or VOMEX for nausea. In addition, electrolytes can help to compensate for fluid losses during severe vomiting or diarrhea.

Cold remedies for sore throat, cough and cold:

We recommend a nasal spray for children, a nasal aspirator for babies, an expectorant cough syrup and sugar-free lozenges for this purpose.

Herbal eye drops:

For irritated and sticky eyes and for mild conjunctivitis, we recommend eye drops such as those from WALA Euphrasia.

Remedies for teething problems:

The first teeth can lead to pain and crying of the child besides the joy of the parents and relatives. OSANIT globules or creams such as DENTINOX or INFECTOGINGI are available to help and alleviate the symptoms.

The perfectly equipped medicine cabinet for big and small.

The medicinal medicine cabinet for kids can of course be supplemented with homeopathic medicines in addition to pharmaceutical products. Aconitum (aconite), arnica (mountain weed), belladonna (deadly nightshade) and chamomilla (chamomile) are among the most common representatives. In addition, other utensils for wound care or acute complaints must not be missing. The following is therefore needed to complement the medicine cabinet:

  • Digital clinical thermometer for example from APONORM
  • Hot water bottles or cherry pit cushions
  • Tweezers, tick forceps
  • Disinfectant spray
  • Elastic bandages and gauze
  • Plasters in various sizes
  • Wound and healing ointment based on zinc or with panthenol
  • Ointment or gel for sprains, strains or bruises
  • Ointment or gel for swellings and itching from insect bites or rashes

So you and your child are well prepared!

In contrast to the AVP, the usual RRP is a recommendation from the manufacturer.
